Famous singer Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr, has achieved the distinction of becoming the most streamed Nigerian artist globally on Spotify. This milestone was announced by Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, during a press conference held in Lagos.
Ayra Starr's collaborations with Rauw Alejandro on “Santa” and her solo track “Comma” secured the top two positions, with Tems’ “Love Me Jeje” taking third place, showcasing the talents of Nigerian artists on the streaming platform.
According to Spotify’s 2024 music global impact list, Luciano and Omah Lay’s collaboration “Another Vibe” ranks fourth, while 21 Savage, Burna Boy, and Metro Boomin’s “Just Like Me” claim the fifth spot.
Tyla and Tems’ “No.1” secures sixth place on the list.
The Spotify executive highlighted that the platform’s 2024 music global impact list recognizes the 30 artists who have achieved significant global reach and streaming success.
She stated:
“Spotify has revealed its global Impact List in Nigeria, acknowledging the top 30 tracks from Nigeria with the greatest global impact on Spotify in the first half of 2024.
“The list acknowledges Nigerian tracks that garnered the most listens outside Nigeria between January 1 and June 30.
“Usher and Pheelz’s ‘Ruin’ ranks seventh among the most streamed Nigerian tracks worldwide, Reis B and Tempoe’s ‘Pretty Girl’ came eighth, and TitoM, Yuppe, Burna Boy, and S.N.E’s ‘Tshwala Bam’ secured ninth place.
“Ayra Starr and Giveon’s ‘Last Heartbreak Song’ occupies the tenth position, Victony’s ‘Everything’ is eleventh, Aya Nakamura and Ayra Starr’s ‘Hype’ emerges as the twelfth most streamed, while Tems and J.Cole’s ‘Free Fall’ takes the thirteenth spot.
“Nigerian music, particularly Afrobeats, continues to captivate global audiences with its infectious rhythms, compelling narratives, and innovative sound blends.
