A Facebook user, who has been following the BBNaija reality TV show for a while, has posted an open message to the show's host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, suggesting that he should step down from his role as the show's host after the current season concludes. The user made a lengthy post on his Facebook page, expressing disappointment with the level of engagement and interest from Nigerians regarding the latest edition of the show.

The Facebook user voiced his concerns, stating that the current season has failed to capture the attention of the Nigerian audience as previous seasons did. He noted that many Nigerians, especially those who follow the show with a more critical mindset, now believe that BBNaija has lost its appeal and relevance.

The user argued that even bringing in popular figures such as VeryDarkMan or Bobrisky would not be enough to restore the show's former prominence. He mentioned that the show no longer generates the excitement it once did, even among fans who used to be ardent followers. According to the user, it might be time for Ebuka to reconsider his position as host.

In his post, the Facebook user listed several reasons for the show’s diminishing popularity. He highlighted the lack of sponsorships, reduced GoTV and DSTV subscriptions, and the poor social media buzz surrounding this year's season. The user also observed that, unlike in previous seasons where housemates became widely known, this season has failed to produce contestants who have made a significant impact on the Nigerian audience.

“In previous seasons, names like T-boss, Uti Nwachukwu, Miracle, Tacha, Mercy, Lekon, and White Money were familiar to even those who weren’t regular viewers of the show. This season, none of the housemates have resonated with the audience in the same way,” the user wrote.

He went on to compare the current season's lack of buzz with even less popular shows, claiming that “even the worst season of Star Quest on NTA or a poor imitation of Papa Ajasco on TikTok would have garnered more attention than this year's Big Brother Naija.” The user also expressed concern for the organizers, questioning how they would be able to sustain the show financially given the reduced viewer interest.

Furthermore, the Facebook user pointed out that the BBNaija format, which originated from South Africa, has been discontinued in the country that created it, yet it continues to run in Nigeria. He suggested that the organizers were now merely capitalizing on the Nigerian market without offering fresh content or creativity.

“Even the South African owners of DSTV stopped airing Big Brother in their own country. They are now focused solely on extracting as much profit as possible from Nigeria’s entertainment industry,” he noted.

The user further linked the dwindling interest in the show to Nigeria’s current economic challenges, pointing out that many Nigerians are more concerned with basic survival than spending money on DSTV subscriptions to watch the show. He said, “In these tough economic times, Nigerians are struggling to pay rent and feed their families. Asking them to spend on subscriptions for 90 days to watch other people, who aren’t even celebrities like Michael Jackson or Madonna, makes no sense.”

In addition to his critique of the show, the user argued that BBNaija has failed to produce true stars, unlike other reality shows like MTN Project Fame or Idols, which launched successful careers for artists such as Iyanya, Chidimma, Mercy Chinwo, Chike, and Omawumi. He suggested that many former housemates, including winners like Lekon, Efe, and White Money, have struggled to maintain their popularity after leaving the house.

He concluded his post by advising Ebuka to move on to other opportunities, using his talents in more innovative platforms such as YouTube or other social media spaces. He suggested that the world is rapidly moving away from traditional TV and towards digital platforms, and that Ebuka could benefit from embracing this trend.

“Ebuka’s charm, intelligence, and fashion sense would be better suited for new media. He should explore other projects where his skills can shine,” the user added.
