Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, has shared his perspective on how artists should determine their performance fees. In a recent discussion, Shallipopi addressed the common critique that Nigerian artistes often charge excessively for shows and concerts.

During an interview with News Central TV, Shallipopi explained that an artist's fee should reflect the success and reach of their music. He emphasized that the value of an artist’s performance is intrinsically linked to how far their music has spread and its overall impact.

Challenging the idea that Nigerian artistes have priced themselves out of the local market, Shallipopi argued that artists who achieve streaming numbers comparable to those of American musicians should set their fees accordingly. Conversely, he noted that if an artist’s streaming figures do not match those of international stars, they should avoid charging excessively.

He stated:

“It depends on your music and where it has gotten; that is what your price is going to be. If your music has gotten the same streams as an American artist, you should be charging the same way they charge. But if it’s not up to that, you cannot overcharge.”
