Desmond Elliot wins re-election as Lagos lawmaker

Desmond Elliot, has been re-elected as the lawmaker representing Surulere 1 constituency of Lagos state. This is his second term in the Lagos State House of Assembly, having first been elected in 2015. According to the election results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Elliot polled 17,837 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adebayo Bode of the Labour Party who polled 7,822 votes. Thompson Sulaimon Abolaji of the Peoples Democratic Party came third with 1,045 votes.

Jubril Gawat, the media aide to the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, insinuated that the name of actor Olumide Oworu was used to rile up the mob for Labour Party votes in the area. He shared a photo of the result sheet and tweeted, "They used that boy’s name to rile up the mob for Labour Party Votes in Surulere 1 ….. Funny people."
