This comes on the heels of reports indicating a significant voter turnout across Edo State on Saturday, the 21st of September, during the off-cycle gubernatorial election.

Davido has been notably vocal, consistently calling out the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on X, accusing the electoral body of malpractice throughout the election process. His fervent involvement has sparked curiosity among many, particularly those wondering why he is so invested in the Edo State election, especially since he is not from the state.

Responding to these inquiries via his X handle, Davido provided clarity by revealing that his late mother, Imade Veronica Adeleke, was originally from Edo State. This personal connection, he explained, forms a significant part of his interest in the election.

In addition to his familial ties, Davido emphasized that as a Nigerian citizen, he feels a broader obligation to be concerned about the electoral process and the integrity of elections in the country.

Davido also noted that his critique of INEC is not new, recalling how he had similarly voiced his discontent during the Osun State gubernatorial election, in which his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, was a candidate.

“My mom is from Edo for those wondering why I’m interested in the election… but we as Nigerians should be concerned sha… @inecnigeria shame on you. I know how many times I had to come in here and rant before they got it right in Osun! It’s really bad. God help us,” he stated.
