Funke Akindele, deputy governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), suffered a defeat at her polling unit during the voting process held on Saturday, March 18, 2023. The incumbent governor and candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Babajide Sanwo-Olu, emerged victorious with a total of 77 votes at Akindele's polling unit located in Ita Aro Square, Àga/Ijimu ward in Ikorodu. On the other hand, Akindele received only 19 votes. The Labour Party governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, received three votes, while Funsho Doherty of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) received two votes. It is worth noting that Sanwo-Olu also won the polling unit of the Labour Party's GRV. As of the moment, Sanwo-Olu is leading the polls with more polling units won.
