Renowned skit maker, Chukwuebuka Emmanuel Amuzie, widely known as Brain Jotter, reflects on his challenging journey before attaining fame as a comedian, sharing insights into his early struggles, including selling doughnuts and insecticide to make a living.
Recalling his undergraduate days at the University of Lagos, Brain Jotter opens up about the necessity of engaging in hawking activities to sustain himself financially while pursuing his education.
During an interview with Oprah on the Hip TV program, Trending, the comedian vividly recounts the hardships he faced, including selling doughnuts and insecticide to cover living expenses and tuition fees.
Expanding on the challenges of his early career, he discloses that in 2020, he was employed in a laundry, earning a monthly salary of N15,000. He describes his journey, stating: “In 2020, I was working in a laundry. I had just gained admission into the University of Lagos.”
Brain Jotter goes on to share the progression of his earnings over the years, stating, “2020, my salary was N15,000. In 2021, my salary was N30,000.” He highlights his multifaceted efforts to sustain himself during his university years, from selling bedbug killer to vending doughnuts in his first year, selling bedbug killer in his second year, to eventually driving to school in his third year.
Reflecting on his current success, Brain Jotter expresses his relentless work ethic, stating, “Ever since my video went viral till now, I can’t just stay five days straight without working. I’ve been restless since hitting stardom, probably except I’m not in Lagos. But even if I’m not in Lagos, I’m still thinking of ideas for content.” He also shares a past aspiration, saying, “My dream then was to rent a one-room apartment and become a taxi driver.”
