Amidst the ongoing reignited feud between the two biggest Afrobeat icons in Nigeria, an old video of Davido has resurfaced, shedding light on the singer’s reason for linking up with Wizkid prior to the release of his Timeless album.
In recent weeks, the rivalry between the two artists took a new turn when Wizkid went on a social media rant, publicly ridiculing his counterpart and belittling Davido’s family. The verbal sparring between the two has reignited old tensions, causing a divide amongst their fans and escalating discussions online.
Amidst this back-and-forth, the resurfaced video features Davido recalling a crucial moment in 2023 when he reached out to Wizkid to meet in person before the release of his album. Davido stated that he wanted to set a peaceful tone for the release and avoid any negative fallout that could arise from their fan bases clashing online.
In the video, the billionaire singer explains that he anticipated how their fan bases, 30BG and Wizkid FC, often clash online, and sought to prevent this from happening during his album release. “I called this guy, I said look, my album is coming out Thursday 12 a.m., leave Wizkid fans, don’t fight anybody. I was with Wizkid a couple of days ago, we didn’t fight. I want my album to come out clean,” Davido recounted, stressing the importance of maintaining peace between their supporters.
Despite Davido’s efforts to maintain harmony, things did not go as planned. “Tell me why they started fighting; my album leaked two days before the release date. We can’t control it; they don’t hear,” he added, expressing frustration over the fan conflict that ensued despite his peaceful intentions.
