In a recent interview, Nigerian singer and songwriter Oxlade revealed that he had to sell tickets and food as a means of survival after running away from home to pursue his music career. The talented artist explained that he had to resort to selling bus tickets, a job commonly done by motor park touts, also known as "agberos," and selling food at parties. Oxlade shared that his father, who is a university lecturer, initially had no interest in supporting his music career. However, with his persistence and determination, Oxlade proved himself and gained his father's support.
In his own words, "Honestly, he [my dad] was indifferent at first. But my stubbornness and consistency paid off [laughs]. I ran away from the house at some point in my life to pursue music personally. And I had to do all sorts of stuff to survive."
Oxlade's experience serves as an inspiration to young people who may be facing challenges in pursuing their dreams. As he stated, "if you can survive in Surulere, you can survive anywhere."
