This announcement was made during a joint meeting held in Umuahia, which included the state executives and local government chairmen of the party. During this meeting, the APC reaffirmed that it would not participate in the November 2, 2024, local government election in Abia State.

The party attributed this significant decision to the lack of official communication from the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), which they deemed unacceptable. In a statement, the State Assistant Secretary and acting publicity secretary of the APC, Engr. Sterling Uruakpa, emphasized that the party would not rely on information sourced from social media regarding the election. He stressed that the Commission should use proper channels to disseminate timely and accurate information about the electoral process to the party members.

Engr. Uruakpa stated, β€œThe All Progressives Congress is the ruling political party in Nigeria and the biggest party in Africa and will not tolerate any form of contempt or disrespect from ABSIEC.” He further elaborated on the necessity for ABSIEC to adhere to due process in their activities to ensure fairness and inclusiveness in the electoral process. He highlighted that providing a level playing field for all political parties is crucial for gaining the confidence and trust of both the political parties and the general populace.

The APC's decision to boycott the election reflects its concerns regarding the conduct of the electoral commission and its commitment to ensuring a fair electoral environment in Abia State.
