[p]The Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has announced that the Egyptian authorities have finally granted access to stranded Nigerians in Egypt who were evacuated from Sudan. This follows an earlier report by NIDCOM that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) was prepared to evacuate Nigerians affected by the Sudan crisis, but they were denied entry at Egypt’s Aswan border. On Monday, May 1, 2023, the agency tweeted about the situation, stating that the Egyptian border was still not open for the Nigerian students, but the NAF C 130 aircraft had landed at Aswan airport and they were determined not to leave without their students. Six hours later, the agency confirmed that Egypt had finally opened its border to Nigerians after President Buhari intervened. According to the tweet, "With the intervention of President Buhari, Egypt has finally opened its border to Nigerians fleeing Sudan. With an Airforce plane already on the ground in Aswan, Egypt, the processing of the first set of evacuees will begin." Stranded Nigerians can now be airlifted from the Northern African country back to Nigeria.
