Reports have surfaced indicating that the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II,, received an immediate directive from the Forum of Chiefs in Nigeria to vacate the palace premises. This development, announced on Wednesday, May 29th, by Chief Ameh Adaji, the president of the forum, and Chief Danladi Etsu, its secretary general, cited the need for maintaining peace and stability in Kano State.
The forum emphasized the importance of consent from the people for holding a royal seat and deemed it inappropriate and unlawful to continue occupying the palace without such approval. With this directive, they cautioned Sanusi against engaging in actions that could incite trouble, violence, or humiliation, warning that security personnel might be compelled to forcibly evict him if necessary.
The forum emphasized adherence to the law of the land, urging Sanusi to set an example by complying with the directive. They criticized his alleged clandestine return to the palace through a back entrance, labeling it as an act that had brought ridicule to the Kano emirship among other emirates. The Forum of Chiefs underscored the significance of following due process and maintaining dignity in the leadership of traditional institutions.
