According to the statement, Kayode Fayemi's visit to the EFCC office in Ilorin, Kwara State, was in response to a petition filed by a group of individuals aiming to tarnish his image. The statement emphasized that the purpose of the visit was to answer a few questions regarding the petition.

The statement further clarified, "We firmly believe that Dr. Fayemi's visit has provided answers to the agency's inquiries regarding the petition. However, should there be a need for further clarification, Dr. Fayemi stands ready to cooperate fully." It also refuted the news circulating about a purported N4bn fraud case against Fayemi, stating that no such allegation was raised during the conversation with the EFCC.

The statement attributed the frivolous petition to a faceless group called the Ekiti Patriotic Coalition, which was believed to be a front for anti-Fayemi politicians attempting to tarnish his reputation and image.
