Former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has openly criticized President Bola Tinubu following his decision to take a two-week vacation in the United Kingdom during a time of significant hardship for many Nigerians.
Lamido voiced his concerns about the timing of the vacation, stating that it sends the wrong message to the public and indicates a lack of urgency in addressing the pressing issues the country is facing, especially the economic and social crises affecting the population.
In his statement, Lamido emphasized the importance of strong leadership and continuous engagement with the problems affecting the citizens, particularly in light of the country's ongoing economic struggles and security challenges.
He questioned whether Tinubu had the necessary level of human empathy for choosing to go on vacation while the majority of Nigerians are suffering from severe economic hardship and insecurity.
GistReel reports that President Tinubu left Nigeria for the UK to begin his two-week vacation, which sparked criticism among political figures and citizens alike.
In a statement by Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, it was explained that the trip was part of the president's annual leave and would also serve as a working vacation.
“He will use the two weeks as both a working vacation and a retreat, where he will take time to reflect on his administration’s economic reforms. After the leave ends, he will return to the country and resume his duties,” the statement said.
However, Lamido responded strongly, accusing President Tinubu of intentionally contributing to the suffering of Nigerians.
In a post on Facebook titled “Deaf, Dumb, Confounded,” Lamido wrote: “Does President Tinubu possess the human empathy, compassion, love, care, and concern to genuinely reflect on the dire situations Nigerians are facing while he is in the comfort of Europe?”
