In a surprise move, the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has dissolved the State Executive Council and relieved all Special Assistants (SAs) and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) of their appointments with immediate effect.

The announcement was made during the Weekly Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

In a statement from the office of the Special Adviser (Media Projects), Caruso Osagie, Governor Obaseki expressed appreciation to the Council members for their service to the government [/b]and the people of the state.

The statement also confirmed that the dissolution of the Council took immediate effect.

“The governor said the dissolution of the Council takes immediate effect.

“The State’s cabinet was dissolved during the Weekly Executive Council meeting on Wednesday,” the statement said.

“The Governor also said that, beginning from today, all Special Assistants (SAs) and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) have been relieved of their appointments,” the statement added.

The decision to dissolve the State Executive Council and relieve SAs and SSAs of their appointments has come as a surprise to many, as no reason was given for the sudden move.

It is unclear at this time whether a new Executive Council will be appointed soon.

Governor Obaseki has been in the news recently following his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last year.

He won re-election as Governor of Edo State under the PDP in September 2020.

The dissolution of the Executive Council and the sacking of SAs and SSAs is expected to generate reactions from various quarters in the coming days
