The ailing governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is making preparations to return to office once his medical team gives him clearance. It can be recalled that due to his health condition and pressure from various political factions in Ondo State, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu formally informed the State House of Assembly about his decision to take a leave of absence. During his absence, his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, assumed the role of acting governor.
The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, confirmed in a statement that Mr. Akeredolu commenced a 21-day leave on June 7th for medical treatment abroad, with the leave scheduled to conclude on July 6th. The extension of the leave until July 6th was due to public holidays observed on June 12th (Democracy Day) and during Eid el Kabir on the 28th and 29th of June.
As the one-month leave draws to a close, Akeredolu expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming affection, prayers, and solidarity he has received from the people. In a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information, Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, Akeredolu acknowledged that the continuous prayers and well wishes for his recovery have provided comfort and rejuvenation.
He conveyed his deep appreciation to the citizens of the state for their unwavering support and prayers while he continues to recover and strive towards regaining good health. Akeredolu emphasized that the gestures not only strengthen his determination to stand on his feet once again but also serve as a driving force for him to continue serving the people, particularly the esteemed residents of Ondo State.
Additionally, he extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, his team members, party leaders, fellow governors, and the members of the State House of Assembly for their support. Akeredolu acknowledged that this unprecedented display of genuine affection and solidarity has been a comforting balm and a revitalizing elixir, sustaining his determination to serve the people, especially the good people of Ondo State.
In high spirits, the governor anticipates rejoining the people of the state as soon as his doctors deem it appropriate.
