The situation within the party reached a boiling point after a rift emerged, leading to the formation of two opposing factions. On Friday morning, a faction loyal to the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, took decisive action by suspending National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN).

This announcement was made through an official statement issued by the PDP National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, early on Friday, who confirmed that a committee had been constituted to investigate the allegations against the officers in accordance with the party’s constitution.

The investigative committee is chaired by Deputy National Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja, and has been tasked with examining the concerns raised against the suspended officers.

However, tensions escalated when another faction, led by National Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, fired back by suspending Umar Damagum and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, accusing them of disloyalty to the party.

In a counter-statement issued by Debo Ologunagba, it was declared that both Damagum and Anyanwu had been suspended from their respective positions as well, intensifying the internal power struggle.

Amidst the unfolding crisis, Ayodele Fayose took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to comment on the situation. He remarked that Nigerians should simply sit back and watch as the events continue to unfold, likening the crisis to a gripping political drama.

He wrote: “PDP: It is becoming such an exciting drama.

“Let’s siddon dey look and see how it ends.“
