Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has spoken out about the recently concluded 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, stating that the election results do not "reflect the will of the people." This statement comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the election with a total of 8,794,726 votes, while Sowore only garnered 14,608 votes.
In his state of the nation address on Wednesday, Sowore accused INEC of failing to electronically transmit results to its portal, stating that the election did not meet legal requirements that say every election result must be scanned and uploaded to the INEC server. He added, "Before this election, I had said INEC wasn't ready for this election. We categorically condemn the election that was held on the 25th of February as a fraudulent election that didn't meet the standard of what should be called a free, fair and credible election."
Sowore further criticized the political elite in Nigeria, stating that the election was a selection rather than a free and fair contest. He claimed that any figures, either for or against him or his opponents, that were seen during the election were fraudulent and concocted.
