The Hisbah Board of Kano State has officially declared a complete prohibition on all types of sports betting throughout the state, marking a significant step in their ongoing efforts to maintain public morality and discipline.
This critical information was revealed by Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, during a press conference held in Kano. During the address, he emphasized the board’s renewed dedication to fighting immorality and ensuring that the values upheld within the state are preserved. The decision to ban sports betting is part of a broader strategy aimed at curtailing activities deemed detrimental to societal ethics and moral standards.
As part of the crackdown on activities that violate the moral code, Dr. Aminuddeen announced the re-launch of the Hisbah’s “Operation Flush Out Immorality.” This operation is designed to target individuals and groups who are found violating the state’s moral standards. The Hisbah aims to foster a more disciplined and orderly society by eliminating behaviors that are perceived to be morally corrupting.
In addition to the ban on sports betting, the Hisbah has also warned landlords against renting out properties to unknown persons, as part of their strategy to combat the rising concern over residential houses being converted into lodges and motels across Kano. This regulation is intended to enhance safety and accountability in the community, ensuring that properties are not misused for illicit activities.
Moreover, new regulations have been introduced to govern courtship practices within the state. Moving forward, prospective couples will be prohibited from sitting in tinted vehicles, particularly at night, during their courtship. This measure aims to discourage secretive behavior that could lead to moral decay or illegal activities.
The Hisbah is also taking a strong stance against street begging, particularly by women. Under the new directive, Dr. Aminuddeen stated that female beggars found outdoors late at night will face arrest, alongside women seen riding tricycles after 10 p.m. This action is part of the board’s broader initiative to combat the rising trend of prostitution and other related vices within the state.
Dr. Aminuddeen warned that anyone found violating these new rules would face serious penalties, reinforcing the board's commitment to enforcing these measures. He further called upon parents to remain vigilant, particularly concerning their daughters, urging them to ensure that their children do not engage in behaviors that could lead to legal repercussions.
