[p]Dangiwa Umar, the former military governor of Kaduna state, has praised former president Olusegun Obasanjo for his recent letter to the chief clerk of the Central Criminal Court, Old Bailey. Obasanjo's letter requested a reevaluation of the case against Ike Ekweremadu and his wife Beatrice, who are facing charges of organ harvesting. The former president pleaded with the court to consider the couple's ill daughter, Sonia, and urged them to balance justice with mercy. In response to the letter, Umar said, "I salute the great act of kindness and empathy by the elder statesman." He added that he did not know Ekweremadu personally but was convinced of his good character, as attested to by President Obasanjo, who has a reputation for resolving international conflicts. Umar concluded by saying, "May God heal their daughter Sonia. May he protect and provide for the young man, Mr David Nwamini."
