The pair previously worked together at Manchester City, where Arteta was Pep Guardiola’s assistant, and Sterling thrived under his coaching, netting an impressive 53 goals during their time together.

Sterling, now 29, expressed his excitement and anticipation about joining Arsenal, stating, “Signing for Arsenal is an incredible feeling. I’m thrilled to be part of this team and look forward to contributing to the club’s success.”

“I’m buzzing with excitement. This move feels like the perfect fit for me, and I’m eager to join the boys on their journey and contribute to the team’s ambition and hunger,” he added.

Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, admitted that Sterling was not initially a target for the club during this transfer window. However, when the opportunity to sign the experienced winger arose, the Gunners couldn’t resist.

“We didn’t originally plan to bring Sterling in when we began the transfer window,” Edu disclosed.

“But we’ve always maintained that the club must be ready for any scenario that arises. Sterling’s experience, knowledge of the Premier League, and history of winning titles made him an irresistible addition to our squad. I’m confident he will bring a lot of value to the team,” he continued.

As part of the loan agreement, Arsenal will cover half of Sterling’s wages throughout his time at the Emirates.

Sterling is expected to make his debut for Arsenal in the much-anticipated North London derby against Tottenham, which will take place following the international break.
