According to reports, Eto’o is alleged to have promised to secure Victoria United’s promotion by manipulating matches. This resulted in Victoria United being promoted to a higher division, with the runner-up of the previous season, Stade de Bertoua, being deemed ineligible by the federation.

Recordings have surfaced of Eto’o discussing the plan with Valentine Gwain, the President of Victoria United. In the recordings, Eto'o can be heard promising to assist the team's promotion by influencing the actions of referees, raising questions about the integrity of the promotion process.

The former Barcelona star has not responded to the allegations, which come shortly after he was accused by former Cameroon FA vice-president, Henry Njalla Quan, of ruining the international career of Man United goalkeeper Onana.
