The negotiations between Arsenal and the German club are progressing, and the deal is expected to be valued at approximately £13 million for Xhaka.

The 30-year-old Swiss footballer, who has one year remaining on his current Arsenal contract, is not anticipated to receive an extension from the club. However, there is an option for an additional year, which would help safeguard Xhaka's transfer value this summer.

Xhaka, who joined Arsenal in 2016, has contributed seven goals and seven assists from 45 appearances across all competitions this season. Staying at Emirates Stadium beyond the summer would have seen him enter the final year of his contract, with the club holding an option for an additional 12 months.

During his time at Arsenal, the Swiss football star has faced some turbulent moments, notably in 2019 when he was stripped of the captaincy following an outburst directed at fans during a match against Crystal Palace at Emirates Stadium.

At that time, Xhaka had expressed his readiness to leave and had agreed to terms with Hertha Berlin during the January transfer window.

However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who shares a positive relationship with Xhaka, convinced him to stay following discussions. Roma had also shown interest in signing Xhaka last summer.

Due to a lack of depth in midfield, the Gunners are planning to revamp their squad in the coming months and are targeting two new signings.

While West Ham captain Declan Rice is their primary target, Arsenal is also interested in Brighton's Moises Caicedo and Chelsea's Mason Mount.
