Inter Milan's CEO, Beppe Marotta, has confirmed that Manchester United has expressed interest in signing goalkeeper Andre Onana from Ajax. The potential move comes as David de Gea's contract with Manchester United has expired, making him a free agent. However, the club is still in talks with De Gea regarding a possible new deal.

According to reports, Onana has been identified as the primary goalkeeping target for Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag, who previously worked with the Cameroonian at Ajax.

During the Gran Gala event in Italy, Marotta revealed that while Manchester United has shown interest in Onana, they have not yet received an offer. He stated, "Manchester United expressed a particular interest, but that needs to blossom into making a proposal over the next few days. Once that happens, both Inter and the player will make a careful evaluation."

Manchester United will soon have to decide whether to make a bid for Onana while also resolving De Gea's future at the club. De Gea had initially agreed to a contract extension with reduced wages, but United later withdrew the offer and has since tried to convince the goalkeeper to accept a larger pay cut. As of now, De Gea is set to become a free agent as his contract with United expires.

Even if De Gea decides to stay at Old Trafford, Manchester United may still pursue a move for Onana, as manager Erik ten Hag is keen to have high-level competition in goal. Onana, 27, joined Inter Milan from Ajax in July of the previous year and had an impressive season, helping the team reach the Champions League final and win the Italian Super Cup and Coppa Italia titles. He made 41 appearances for Inter Milan, recording 19 clean sheets in the process.
