Liverpool wasted no time in pursuing their second signing of the summer, following the earlier arrival of Alexis Mac Allister in June. Talks between Szoboszlai and Liverpool, as reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, have led to this positive development.

Initially, Liverpool downplayed their interest in Dominik Szoboszlai, but they swiftly changed their stance and activated the €70 million (£60.1m) release clause, which expired on Friday, June 30.

While Ornstein initially mentioned that the deal was considered complicated by Liverpool, it seems that all the initial obstacles, including competition from other clubs, have now been resolved.

The highly-rated Hungarian international, who has made 32 appearances for his country, had attracted the attention of several top European clubs, but it was always likely that he would end up in the Premier League.

Newcastle had been monitoring Szoboszlai but have shifted their focus to other targets. Szoboszlai currently earns around £80,000 per week at Leipzig but could expect a significant increase in wages once he joins Liverpool.

Szoboszlai began his professional career at Liefering before signing for Red Bull Salzburg in 2018. He then made the switch to Leipzig in 2021.

During his time at Salzburg, Szoboszlai won the Austrian league title four times and the Austrian Cup three times. Since joining Leipzig, he has already lifted the DFB-Pokal trophy twice.

This breakthrough news will serve as a significant boost for Jurgen Klopp's side as they prepare for the upcoming season. With Alexis Mac Allister already added to the squad from Brighton, Liverpool also allowed James Milner to move in the opposite direction. Additionally, young midfielder Fabio Carvalho joined RB Leipzig on loan for the upcoming season.
