Napoli have officially removed Victor Osimhen from their first-team squad and assigned his No. 9 shirt to their latest acquisition, Romelu Lukaku.
This decision follows the failure of potential transfers for Osimhen to Chelsea and Al Ahli on Deadline Day.
Osimhen, 25, had been expected to leave Napoli this summer, with Chelsea reportedly in discussions up until the final moments of the transfer window. However, no agreement was finalized, and Al Ahli, who had initially reached an agreement for Osimhen, opted to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford instead.
With these transfer deals collapsing, Osimhen now faces a challenging situation, as he has been excluded from Napoli’s plans despite his pivotal role in the team's success last season.
In addition to being removed from the squad list, Osimhen has also been taken off the club’s official website, while Lukaku, who joined from Chelsea, is now prominently listed as Napoli’s new No. 9. The shift reflects the club’s updated roster and plans for the upcoming season.
