Ronaldo, who was brought on at halftime, proved to be the difference-maker by scoring the decisive goal in the 88th minute. He finished off a cross from Nuno Mendes to give Portugal the lead. Prior to this, Bruno Fernandes had equalized for Portugal in the 54th minute with a low shot that managed to get past Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn.
