Following her loss of the 100m world title to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams in Budapest, Nigerian superstar athlete Tobi Amusan shared her reaction.
Tobi Amusan's journey to the final commenced from the qualification heat 5, where she secured the top position with a time of 12.48 seconds, enabling her progression to the Semis. In the Semis, she clinched the winning spot with a timing of 12.56 seconds.
However, 30-year-old Danielle Williams, who previously triumphed in Beijing in 2015, secured the 100m world title with a time of 12.43 seconds, while Tobi Amusan claimed the 6th spot with a timing of 12.62 seconds.
Puerto Rico's Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and USA's Kendra Harrison secured the second and third positions with timings of 12.44 and 12.46, respectively.
Addressing her defeat, Amusan acknowledged that the journey to the final had its challenges, especially considering the past few weeks. She expressed gratitude for making it to the final and vowed to return even "stronger" next year.
Amusan conveyed her appreciation to her fans for their unwavering support through both successes and setbacks, assuring them of her comeback with greater strength.
She shared her thoughts, saying, “Yeah, it’s a tough one; nobody likes to lose but considering what I have gone through in the past couple of months, I’m so grateful that I came out.”
Amusan's participation in the race followed her clearance from doping violations, with her provisional suspension being lifted ahead of the championship.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) had provisionally suspended the Nigerian track and field athlete due to three missed drug tests. The charge carried a potential two-year suspension, even in the absence of a failed drug test.
However, the Disciplinary Tribunal absolved Tobi Amusan of the charge, stating that she had not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.
