Former Manchester United and Ajax goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar has been hospitalized after experiencing a cerebral hemorrhage. The 52-year-old, who had been on vacation on a Croatian island, fell ill and was swiftly taken to the hospital. Dutch public broadcaster NOS reported that he has been stabilized. Van der Sar's condition was confirmed by both Ajax and Manchester United. Ajax released a statement stating that he had suffered bleeding around his brain and is currently in the intensive care unit, but in a stable condition. They expressed their well wishes and hoped for his speedy recovery. Manchester United also issued a statement expressing their concern for Van der Sar and his family. They highlighted his significant contributions to the club during his time as a player, which included winning four Premier League titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson. Van der Sar, widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in history, enjoyed success at both Ajax and Manchester United. He won the Champions League with Ajax in 1995 and went on to claim four Premier League titles and another Champions League trophy with Manchester United in 2008. He is also the second-highest-capped player for the Netherlands, having made 130 international appearances. After retiring from playing, Van der Sar took on the role of chief executive at Ajax in 2016 but resigned in May, transferring his responsibilities to colleagues on June 1. However, he was asked by the board to remain in his position until August 1 to ensure a smooth transition. His departure coincided with a challenging season for Ajax, as the club finished third in the Eredivisie, marking their worst performance in 14 years.
