According to sources, Adamu submitted his resignation letter on Sunday night, July 16, in the absence of the president. He sent the letter to the Presidential Villa in Abuja, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while Tinubu was away attending the African Union (AU) meeting in Kenya. The letter was delivered to the Chief of Staff of the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, around 4 pm on Sunday.

Sources have revealed that Adamu's resignation came as a result of a concerted effort by individuals close to the president to undermine him during the scheduled party meetings. However, it has been denied that President Tinubu personally requested Adamu's resignation. The National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings of the APC, initially planned for July 10 and 11, were later rescheduled for tomorrow and Wednesday to address critical party issues and the ongoing crisis within the National Working Committee (NWC).

A prominent party member disclosed that Adamu decided to resign upon learning that two influential figures associated with the president had mobilized against him ahead of the meetings. Concerned about facing potential impeachment, Adamu chose to resign and spare himself from humiliation.

When contacted, Adamu declined to comment on the matter until President Tinubu returns from the AU meeting, stating that he would not discuss the issue while the president is away. It is worth noting that Adamu was the preferred candidate of former President Muhammadu Buhari for the APC national chairmanship seat.
