Bayelsa State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dr. Gentle Emelah, expressed disappointment upon discovering students washing cassava instead of attending classes during his visit to a primary school.
During his inspection of Community Primary School 1 & 2 Angalabiri in Sagbama LGA, he encountered pupils engaged in washing freshly harvested cassava on the school premises during learning hours.
The students explained that they had not received any instruction that day and were assigned by the teachers to harvest and process cassava instead.
Upon investigation, the teachers acknowledged that the students were working for them and appealed to the Commissioner for forgiveness.
Expressing strong disapproval, Dr. Emelah summoned the absent Head Teacher and all other staff members of the school to his office in Yenagoa for disciplinary measures.
