The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), is currently in their custody for questioning. Dr. Peter Afunanya, the Public Relations Officer of the DSS, issued a statement in Abuja stating that Bawa was invited to their office over allegations of abuse of office. President Bola Tinubu approved the indefinite suspension of Bawa from his position as EFCC Chairman, allowing for a thorough investigation into his conduct while in office. The suspension was prompted by serious allegations of abuse of office against Bawa. The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation directed Bawa to hand over the affairs of his office to the Director of Operations in the commission. The director will oversee the office of the chairman until the investigation is concluded. Abdulrasheed Bawa was appointed as the substantive chairman of the EFCC by former President Muhammadu Buhari, succeeding Mohammed Umar, who served in an acting capacity after the suspension of Ibrahim Magu over corruption allegations.
