FG spent $1.2m to evacuate Nigerians from Sudan to Egypt

The Federal Government has recently revealed that it spent approximately $1.2 million to carry out an evacuation operation, which successfully relocated stranded Nigerians out of Sudan. This information was disclosed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, during a briefing held for State House correspondents at the end of the Federal Executive Council, FEC.

During the briefing, Mr. Onyeama explained that the government provided a security cover for the eight-hour journey from Luxor to Cairo, as well as the eleven-hour trip from Aswan to Cairo in Egypt. In addition, the government provided 40 buses to transport about 2,400 students who were stranded in Sudan, most of whom were students of the University of Khartoum.

Furthermore, Mr. Onyeama stated that no Nigerian lost their lives during the conflict, and emphasized that there are currently no discussions about alternative plans for continued education for the evacuees.

Overall, the Federal Government's evacuation operation was able to successfully transport a large number of Nigerians out of Sudan, while ensuring their safety and well-being during the journey.
