RejiYates expressed her love for her job and the happiness it brings her, apart from her salary. She declined the man's proposal, stating that they are not in the same financial position and it wouldn't be fair to limit their lifestyles or pressure him to earn more. The man then questioned if she would give up her work for love, to which she firmly responded with a "no." She explained that her job is integral to her identity and personal brand, so it cannot be abandoned.

The man argued that her reasoning was unrealistic and disclosed his annual salary range of around 100,000 to 200,000 naira. RejiYates acknowledged his income but shared her own salary range of 28 million to 34 million naira, prompting the man to claim that she cannot earn more than her husband. She labeled him as insecure and suggested he find someone within his own financial bracket to provide for. In response, he threatened to report her to her family, but RejiYates remained unfazed, confident that her family would dismiss such a mentality.

RejiYates took to Twitter to share her experience and seek opinions on whether she was in the wrong. She questioned if Nigerian women are often faced with such challenges, emphasizing her belief in the importance of gender equality and the ability for women to achieve success in their careers.

This guy in Nigeria that knows my family asked if it would be okay for him to speak to my parents about marriage and I said no. I don’t have an interest in marrying him. He asked why and I have my reasons. He focused on the financial reason.[/blockquote]
