According to Anike, Germany lacks the vibrant atmosphere she was accustomed to in Nigeria, where she could engage in lively activities and easily socialize.

Anike admits to having a strong yearning for her home country, Nigeria, as she perceives developed countries as places where people primarily focus on their own affairs.

In her own words, she says:

“Before I moved to Germany; before I came abroad, I used to think all these stories I read online and see people post about depression and loneliness abroad, I thought it was a joke and that they are not being honest. It’s crazy out here and depressing.

“You know, if I was bored in Nigeria, I can take a taxi to a joint and eat catfish pepper soup and everything and go out with my friends. Here, nobody is selling Gala in traffic, no one is selling panadol,” she expresses.
