The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained the former governor of Benue, Samuel Ortom, for a period of nine hours before releasing him. Ortom arrived at the EFCC's Zonal Headquarters in Makurdi at 10 a.m. and left at approximately 7:00 p.m. According to GistReel, Ortom was summoned by the EFCC for questioning regarding allegations of corruption and financial misappropriation during his tenure as governor. A source confirmed Ortom's presence at the EFCC office, stating that he was being investigated for the alleged misappropriation of funds. Ortom had previously encouraged his former appointees to cooperate with the EFCC if invited, emphasizing that he had nothing to fear and was willing to face any accusations brought against him. Ortom's media aide, Terver Akase, clarified that the former governor was not arrested or detained, but simply honored the EFCC's invitation. Akase asserted that Ortom had nothing to hide and would always make himself available for questioning by the anti-graft agency.
