Pastor in Ondo remanded for pushing tenant to death

An Ondo State Magistrates’ Court [/b]has remanded Emmanuel Adebayo, a 56-year-old pastor, in a correctional centre over the alleged murder [/b]of Toyin Olatunji, his 50-year-old tenant. According to reports, the incident occurred on April 4, 2023, at No.14 Moferere Street Owe-Akala, Akure, during a quarrel between the defendant and the female tenant.

It is alleged that the pastor pushed the victim, causing her to become unconscious, which eventually led to her death. The prosecutor in the case, Abdulateef Suliaman, applied to the court to remand the defendant in correctional custody, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions(DPP).

The defence counsel, on the other hand, requested an adjournment to enable his client to file a counter affidavit to the prosecutor’s application. However, Magistrate Tope Aladejana granted the prosecutor’s application and ordered the remand of the defendant in Olokuta Correctional Centre.

The case has been adjourned until April 27 for a ruling. It is important to note that the defendant is said to be a pastor in a Christ Apostolic Church. The offence is said to contravene Sections 316 and 310 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo, 2006.
