President Bola Tinubu has taken the decision to suspend Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The suspension was officially announced by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, through a statement released on Friday. The suspension is said to be effective immediately.
The statement further explained that Emefiele's suspension is a result of an ongoing investigation into his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the Nigerian economy. President Tinubu has directed Emefiele to hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor while the investigation and reforms are underway.
In a recent development, it has been reported by Daily Post that the Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the suspended CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele. The arrest followed immediately after President Tinubu's decision to suspend him, as mentioned in the statement released by the director of information office of the secretary to the government of the federation.
