According to reports, the events leading up to Ariyo’s death began when his teacher brought a dustbin to the classroom and instructed students not to damage it.

Ariyo allegedly questioned this by saying, “Is it not our money they used to buy it?” which led the teacher to report him to the principal. The principal, Mrs Onalapo reportedly instructed the teacher to discipline the boy, resulting in the alleged brutal flogging.

Witnesses state that the teacher administered 164 lashes until Ariyo collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital, but his condition worsened, and he later passed away at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta. A video circulated online shows his body being placed into an ambulance, intensifying public outrage.

Adetoun, a social media activist, expressed her fury over the incident, warning that she would ensure accountability if the boy was buried before she arrived in Ogun State. She urged the Ogun State authorities to launch an immediate investigation and called for those responsible to be held accountable for the young boy’s death.
