A 16-year-old boy named Emmanuel John has been detained by the police in the Federal Capital Territory for allegedly killing his father, Monday John, by beating him with a pestle. The incident occurred on May 2 around 10 p.m. at the family's residence in Abuja.
According to police sources, Emmanuel's parents had a physical altercation that turned violent, and the teenager intervened in defense of his mother. During the scuffle, Emmanuel grabbed a nearby pestle and struck his father on the head with it, causing him to collapse. Monday was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.
On May 3, Yusuf Ayuba reported the incident to the Karshi Police Station as a case of culpable homicide. Following the completion of the police investigation, Emmanuel is set to be charged in a juvenile court.
FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, spoke about the incident during a news conference on Friday, confirming that Emmanuel had hit his father's head hard with the pestle after taking his mother's side in the altercation. Garba added that the suspect will be arraigned in a juvenile court after the investigation is concluded.
