UNICAL grants N1M prize to top graduating student

The University of Calabar UNICAL [/b]awards its overall best-graduating [/b]student, Roland Osaji Takon, with the sum of N1M (N1,000,000).

With first-class honors in both history and international studies, he stood out as the top student overall at the 36th Convocation Ceremony of the University in 2023/2024, out of 10,117 graduates.

Roland acquired a CGPA of 4.85, according to Vice-Chancellor Prof. Florence Obi, and received the SUG prize for the top graduate which is one million naira.

“Roland Takon of the Department of History and International Studies (2021/2022 Session, with Matric No.: 18/032144145 is the overall best student and valedictorian.

“He has a CGPA of 4.85 on the scale of 5. He is the proud winner of the N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) SUG Prize for the Overall Best First Class Graduate. We are awarding National Diplomas to 218 persons and Bachelor degrees to 9,722.

“Out of the 9,722 Bachelor Degrees, 46 have First Class Honours (Male 34, Female 12); 1,968 have Second Class Upper; 6,439 have Second Class Lower; 1,117 have Third Class; while 152 have Pass Degree,” she said.

Thirty-four males and twelve ladies received first class degrees respectively. Given that 80% of the graduates this year are graduates, Obi said that the graduation rate had improved.
